The START-PHRASE-ENROLLMENT request method is used by the MRCP client to start an enrolment session. The purpose of an enrolment session is add a phrase to a speaker-dependent, personal grammar by employing the user s voice. During the enrolment session, the MRCP client repetitively calls RECOGNIZE with the Enroll-Utterance header field set to true.5 Each call to RECOGNIZE captures a single example of the phrase in question and the progress of the enrolment is conveyed in NLSML contained in the RECOGNITION-COMPLETE event message. Typically, a small number of repetitions is required to train the phrase. The enrolment session is terminated by the MRCP client calling END-PHRASE-ENROLLMENT and is used either to commit the new phrase to the personal grammar or to abort it. A number of header fields must be specified in the START-PHRASE-ENROLLMENT method to configure the enrolment session. The Personal-Grammar-URI specifies a URI for the speaker-dependent personal grammar. That URI may already exist, in which case an additional phrase is being added to the grammar. Otherwise, a new grammar is created. The format for the Personal-Grammar-URI is platform specific. The Phrase-ID header field specifies a unique identifier for the phrase. The Phrase-NL specifies a natural language or semantic result that will be returned during a later recognition if the phrase is recognised. The set of header fields pertaining to voice enrolment are explained in detail in Section 13.6. Figure 13.8 illustrates a complete example of the flow required to enrol a phrase.
